Frequently Asked Questions
What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture is a method of direct food distribution from the farmer to the consumer that benefits both parties. The farmer knows exactly where his market is for the season or year and the consumer gets very high quality, fresh and nutrient-dense produce delivered to their door or a pickup point at a fair price. This relationship helps recreate the urban to rural connection that has been lost with the industrialization of our food supply. Additionally, you will know exactly where your produce comes from and how it was grown, alleviating the concern that you may have about the quality and safety of your vegetables. Essentially it is Subscription produce purchase.
Is this a new way vs. the old Share method for the year?
We have altered our former way of doing season cycle shares by allowing our customers to choose one season at a time and purchasing any season for $300 per 10 weeks of produce. You may choose to purchase any or all of the 4/5 seasons Mother Nature allows us to produce. This facilitates an ease for our customers as the cash outlay is less plus it allows our accountants to maintain their sanity! Talk to us if you want to purchase a half share- for individuals who do not need a full share or a Bonus share- which is a share and a half to accommodate larger families. We will happily work with our customers on this request.
What happens if the weather is uncooperative-too hot, too much rain, etc.?
By becoming a member in our farm, you will share in the risk of farming. If we cannot provide food for our Member Share Boxes due to things beyond our control such as weather related events like hail storms or floods then you will still pay for that week and not receive your share. If, however, you do not receive your share due to negligence on our part then we would credit your account to receive a box during a future week. This is where the word "community' comes into play in Community Supported Agriculture. You can trust that at all times we will do everything in our power to make sure you receive your Member Share Box
What type of produce can I expect in my box and can I choose what I want?
You will receive 6-8 varieties of what is in-season without customization. We only put what is fresh and currently growing in the boxes- that ensures you get the freshest, most nutritious produce available. So in the spring you can expect strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes, okra and such. Summer brings melons- cantaloupe, watermelon, onions and more and fall is abundant with greens- kale, mustard greens, arugala, lettuce mix and much more.
Why should I choose a CSA program & Walnut Creek Organics over my local store?
Walnut Creek Organics is a family-run farm that participates both in local food bank programs as well as local Farmer’s markets. We provide for those less fortunate and strive to produce healthy, Organic locally-grown produce. Our product has not taxed the earth as we replenish and rotate our fields and only farm organically nor has it cost the environment by virtue of gas, trucks or travel to get to you- the consumer. You can be secure in the knowledge that your produce box is Organic and environmentally green in every way possible as well as supporting your local community.
So how do I sign up?
You may download our application form and submit it on-line, email us- wcorganics.com, phone us (you may leave a message as we are often out in the fields!) or ask us when you see us at the local Farmer’s Market. We strive to be at the Austin Tony Burger center and the Triangle every weekend.
Do you offer any other local grown or produced organic items?
Yes we are able to offer organic Free- range chicken eggs for $6.00 a dozen or $3.00 per half dozen. Also we will occasionally be able to offer Ruta Maya Organic coffee and White Egret Farms raw Goat’s Milk Yogurt. We do our best to help our environment and keep our local producers productive while still offering a healthy, green product reasonably priced.
